There is much more to say but because of space I am limited. There are many good books available on this subject. Here are the titles of just a few: The Three Day's Darkness, by Fr. Herbert; Prophecies, the Chastisement and Purification, by Fr. Herbert; Catholic Prophecy, Yves Dupont. Lyrics to 'Rap God' song by Eminem: Look. The way I'm racing around the track, call me NASCAR, NASCAR. How the fuck am I supposed to bake them a cake then? I am a HUGE Eminem fan and therefore I am extremely biased so I'm not expecting anyone to take this review seriously... But whatever.
THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. Em's brand of humour is all over it, the pictures are amazing and rare, and his stories from his past tours are hilarious. The absolute best part is the scanned lyric sheets. You ACTUALLY get to see the work of a genius (told you I was biased). You can actually see this jumble of chicken-scratch writing, in different coloured pens scattered a

I'm not big into bio's because I don't feel many celebrities have anything significant to offer, mostly because they lead such different lives than normal people (over the course of time). It becomes hard to relate to their story. Marshall Mather's story is equally difficult to relate to, on both sides of the spectrum, from dirt poor working at Little Ceasars to practical billionaire. But it's the honest telling of the drastic difference from welfare to uber fame that makes it so entertaining. W...more

I'm not quite sure what I expected out of this book. I used to LOVE Eminem and not that I don't like him now but I'm not really into rap like I used to be. So for me reading this took me back to the time when I was into all of that stuff.
I think the book was fairly well written. Being a rapper it seems obvious that Eminem has a way with words, but the way he says things is so simple. He doesn't sugar coat or try to play around the issue. He says what he needs to say and that's it.

'The Way I Am' is an amazing book full of inside personal details that can only be told by the amazing rapper himself. He describes his early life and career through 2008. When the autobiography came out, he was in a musical hiatus and all he could say in the book was that he was 'working on new stuff.' Since then he has come out with three albums.
The autobiography itself is set up perfectly. He describes every aspect of his life and all three of his alter-ego's. He has countless personal pictu

I found this book really vapid and bland. There's nothing new - stuff most people already know. He talks mostly about his career and lists names of a bunch of underground rappers that aren't even a part of my generation. He did offer some analysis behind his lyrics but, like I mentioned before, nothing surprising. And certainly not a page-turner.
It's important to note that it was written a while ago...2004 or 2005? He's unmistakably changed over the past five years, maturing and evolving as an

As a big time Eminem fan I absolutely enjoyed the book, the background information especially concerning his writing process and insights in the real person behind the figure Eminem. This is a fairly short book with lots of pictures, I would have wished for even more intimate details but still this book is worth 5 stars. However, please keep in mind that I may be slightly biased (because Eminem is the Rap God and who wants to have an argument with God?)

I'm not a diehard Eminem fan, but I do find some of his music and much of his life fascinating. I know next to nothing about hip hop, and a lot of this book assumes that you know certain artists or events or terms, so I likely wasn't the target audience. Overall, I enjoyed it and feel that I learned a bit about hip hop and a bit about Eminem. The book itself is designed beautifully with photos and graphics- I found it very impressive.

Rather shocked at Marshall's tale, but more shocked at the intimate notes he includes. This work focuses mostly on his friendship with Proof, as it was released shortly after his death, but also illustrates a very private life (not much of Kim... sorry!). Overall, a powerful and visual journey through the life of Slim.
Marshall Mathers is an inspiration to everyone-a fan or not. Not everyone gets to stand up and fight against the difficulties presented in our lives, let alone win. He makes it possible for everyone to believe that they can be whoever they want to be, regardless of who they are now.
A great read, especially for a Stan.
As you would expect, Eminem was pretty candid in this autobiography. There's a lot of neat stuff in there. I was mainly reading this for nuggets of inspiration. It's pretty cool to see the chaotic way he writes down lyrics - makes me not feel so bad about my piles of random papers with half-written poems. Love Eminem, love the book.
I think Eminem speaks his honest truth. Everything he says or does is his life but even the bad mistakes that he makes, he admits them and tells the world so that the world can accept his change that he know has. Eminem is the one and only idol i look up to, maby not so much because of his past but now. now he is awesome!
In this book Marshall B. Mathers describes some difficult and some joyful parts of his life. Events like Dr. Dre, his mom, and his 3 daughters are mentioned. His upcoming in Detroit, Michigan as a battle rapper is a point he wants people to know. He even goes as far as throwing hints towards the rumors of him and Mariah Carey going out.
While I'm certainly not a big rap fan, I do like some of Eminem's music, and I also love reading musician's autobiographies. This one is a little different to say the least. If you can get past the street slang and invectives, it's definitely interesting to read about Marshall Mathers' rise to fame. I think he's a lot smarter and more talented that many people might think.
I'm only partially through this book, but I'm enjoying the straight-forward style. I loved the paragraph where Eminem writes that he is a regular suburban dad, taking care of the kids, doing stuff around the house and mowing the lawn. Then he says that he mows the lawn naked with a chainsaw. There is always a quick wit lurking around the edges of his writing.
Maybe some people shouldn't write their own autobiography. Maybe they should stay quiet!
This is all about his take on his music career - none of the good gossip that you would expect.

Lucien de Grey, the Duke of Marchmont has an interesting history with Lord Lexham's daughter, Zoe Octavia. When a ten-year-old Lucien lost his parents, his father's best friend, who happened to be Lexham, took him and his brother Gerard into his home. Lucian and Gerard were quite welcomed into the Lexham brood. But the child who makes the most impression on Lucian, is five-year-old Zoe Octavia. Zoe was there always annoying Lucien and getting into trouble. She had a bad habit of running away and...more

This was one odd book. From premise to characters to tempo. It defied normal.
First off - 'Harem Girls??' That was just weird. And her behavior as a result...
This kind of felt like a book that painted an appalling misrepresentation of the Middle East - as some bizarre sex capital. That definitely made me uncomfortable.
Which pretty much sums this one up. Uncomfortable.
An odd and to me offensive book, one that feels as if the talented Chase just mailed it in. Drawing on the white slavery trope, the novel features a girl kidnapped in Egypt at the age of 12 and given as a 'wife' to an impotent prince. Escaping at the age of 24, Zoe returns to England but needs to find a powerful husband in order to take her rightful place in ton society. That a girl who was kidnapped at 12, who stayed in another culture for 12 more years, and who was taught about sexuality in a...more

Loved this book, especially the way Zoe, who has changed a lot since she was child, just says whatever is on her mind. I also loved how she didn't act like a coquette and just took whatever Lucien gave her. Nice change of pace from the normal 'Historical Romance'. Great book!

It is a truth accepted and confirmed by us, Book Smugglers, that if you are in search of a good romance novel you should look no further than the 'C' in your local book store. It is there that you will find Loretta Chase's books in all their splendid quality that comes from all The Loretachaseness in them: wonderful dialogue, the light and yet deeply emotional plots and wonderful heroes and heroines.
Don't Tempt Me is yet another one to those books by the author in which every sin

After being sold to a pasha, the h is returned to her family. The H believes her to be an impostor and is shocked when he realises that he knows her. She's learned how to survive in the harem which is just as well as returning to her family and society is not easy for anyone. The H is great and seems to be so strong, but he has suffered awful losses in his life, and is barely coping. Luckily for him, the h knows how to please a man. Great fun mixed with angst and a rather rushed ending.

I really don't like reading series books out of order. But I just couldn't resist this one! It sounded so good!! A woman (Zoe Lexham) is kidnapped as a child and is forced into a harem for 10 years! Now, you find out through the course of the story that although she was in this harem of some Egyptian king's favorite son, she was still a virgin. To me, this is THE most unbelievable thing I have EVER read. Come on!! Still a virgin?! She explains that the king's son was ill and whatever illness it...more

Zoe and Lucien. I ended up liking this one more than I thought I would.
Zoe was a wild child until she disappears during a trip with her family to Egypt. After Lucien's parents died and he and his brother were taken in by Zoe's father, she became a favourite person of Lucien's. Then Lucien's brother died too and it seemed that Zoe was all he had left until she disappeared. Zoe spent 12 years as the wife (married) at 12 to a desert prince who was impotent. She finally manages to escape and return

This was a serviceable story, but only just, and way below what I've come to expect from Chase (in terms of my enjoyment). Most of the elements were just flat. I couldn't take the plot seriously, Lucien was a self-absorbed jerk, and the romance felt rather tacked on, really.
Zoe was about the only element that kept me engaged, but even there I had to ignore her deeply improbable background. A harem girl? And a virgin after twelve years in captivity as a slave? Really? I liked her gumption and cou

Good novel by a great author - I enjoyed it but wouldn't re-read it, hence the 3-star rating.
This novel was unbelivable in a fun way, like many of Chase's best (Mr. Impossible is a good example). Plucky English girl is abducted at 12 and held in the harem of an eastern pasha with erectile dysfunction, and escapes at the age of 24 and returns to England to find love with her father's ward, the Duke.
Yes, it stretches your credulity, but ironically I had no problem with the virgin harem girl plot p

A fun and fluffy romance. So far my least favorite of Chase's novels. I think mostly because the heroine got on my nerves. She was smart and clever and caring but quite often she made the most ridiculous choices it annoyed me. It was almost as if she wanted the world to revolve around her - and this could quite be the case considering she was the youngest of a large family and had spent 12 years as a captive. But I think my issue was that she was so clearheaded about everything else; this stubbo...more

This one was a smooth running story with a good dialog you came to expect from Ms. Chase writing. But it made me feel like a pearl diver who jumped to retrieve a promising oyster, opened it, and, instead of a beautiful pearl, found a small lackluster specimen. The story could be so much richer if the transformation of 'The Harem Girl' to a member of the upper echelon of society was not done so quickly and smoothly. The heroine experience in captivity was sprinkled throughout the book and I kept...more

DNF -- not my cup of tea
In order for me to enjoy a period piece I need to be sucked into that time from page 1. This story felt like a modern telling conveniently placed in the past. Also, I knew I was going to grow sick of the H's 'shuttered' eyes--I mean who really does that.
Maybe I'll come back to this, but there are so many books to read.

This one reminded me why Loretta Chase is often on my keeper shelf. The heroine is brilliant, so cheeky and totally unpredictable. Kidnapped at 12 and sold as a toy into a harem, she manages to escape, only to be confronted with the corseted society of England's upper crust... Of course the whole premise is impossible, but what a fun romp!

Loretta Lynda Chekani was born in 1949, of Albanian ancestry. For her, the trouble started when she learned to write in first grade. Before then, she had been making up her own stories but now she knew how to write them down to share. In her teenage years, she continue to write letters, keep a journal, write poetry and even attempt the Great American Novel (still unfinished). She attended New Engl...more

'I did say it. I do love you with all my heart.'
'I see.' There was a long pause, then he said, 'For how long has this been going on?'
'I don't know,' she said, 'Sometimes i think it started a long, long time ago.'
'You might have mentioned it.'
'I didn't want to encourage it,' she said, 'I thought it was a bad idea.'
